{Asparagus, Coloring and Why I Have the Greatest Cat}

First off, let me say I just love food. As a lovely Some E Card so elegantly states, "My life is a constant battle: wanting to eat and not wanting to get fat." It's totally true. I will say that I do love to cook, and besides my wicked sweet tooth, I'm a pretty dang healthy eater. My most recent food love: Asparagus. Holy heck, yummmm.

Secondly, I totally have a love/hate relationship this school. Can I get an amen? I never actually thought there would come a day that I would say that I love school.... but I truly do. Being in design classes... my heart just knows that's right where it belongs. It's home there. I love walking around campus [mostly]. I love wearing my backpack (really). But I have my moments. On days when I'm so tired I cry. On days where I think I might just want to hit my lovely, sweet, kindhearted, shortest Polish, hardass, architectural graphics teacher. Or on days when my little community college classroom is so cold that we have to bring our own heaters. Sometimes days where I just can't seem to bring myself out of bed. Or mostly the days when I'm so tired I have meltdowns and I have to call me (oh-so-amazing) boss and see if I can come in late [again] so that I can do homework. But really, it's all good. Truth be told, I really kind of love it when this is what homework makes me look like. But not when I'm at school and I have charcoal streaks on my forhead, or above my lip giving a moustache and no one tells me.

Lastly. I will admit that I'm a crazy cat lady. I just love my little kitty. She really is my best little friend. She snuggles more than any cat I've ever met. She's always there waiting at the door with me. She falls asleep with me. She amazes me. She knows when I'm sad, or stressed/overwhelmed. She knows if I'm sick, or if I'm having a lonely day and missing Kjirk. She always knows. And I love that she's really dumb. Her name is Scout. But she thinks it's Kitten. So Kitten she is. But sometimes she's Bean, or Dinglefritz (when she's being particularly daft), or most recently- Squeegy Beckenheim (does ANYone watch GG?). She seriously just sits in my lap while I do homework. She da best.

While working and going to school and the same time and just generally trying to have a life- I stay pretty busy. Actually, life is pretty overwhelming, usually. With my school schedule varying, and being away from home so often, it's difficult to find a way to eat healthy. This quarter I've been trying my best. This recipe has really helped! I can make it on Sunday night and keep it in the fridge to warm up individual slices every morning before I go to class. It's perfect. It gives me energy with lots of protein and veggies in the morning.

Spinach, bell pepper, suasage breakfast Quiche

1 lb Italian sausage

1 C chopped onion

7 oz. jar drained roasted red bell pepper

OR 1 large red bell pepper, chopped & roasted

9 oz. package frozen spinach- or fresh

1 C unlbeached flour

1/4 grated Parmesan

1/2 tsp Salt

1 Tbsp Basil

8 eggs

2 C milk

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Grease pan. Brown sausage and onion together. If needed, roast peppers in oven. Line the pan with the browned sausage, onion and peppers. Add the spinach. Mix eggs, milk, salt, basil amd flour together thoroughly. Pour over existing ingredients in the pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Wait 5 minutes. Enjoy!

*Note* For me personally, I half this recipe. That is plenty for me. Last for days in the refridgerator. I also use lean sausage. I use Jimmy Dean low fat.

Hello, World!

Well hello, lovelies! It's been a while. I'm so sorry. Life's been a little crazy. Good. But crazy. You all have been sweet with your concern about my absence. Well, all is well and here's a little recap to where I've been and what I've been doing. Let's see...

I started school this September. And, well, I kind of love it. Crazy. I never would have thought I would ever say that. I bought a new stripey backpack. It felt like first grade and I was so nervous. I picked out a new outfit that looked like I wasn't trying too hard. I wore my most favorite coral pants from Urban. It was good.

I had a lovely Autumn. Trying to figure out school and work and life all together. It was good. Autumn is pretty.

November was wonderful. Why? Well, there might have been something I haven't mentioned. There is this guy. And he's kind of perfect. And by kind of, I actually mean really perfect. We're a little head-over-heels for each other. And by a little I really mean a LOT.

He's in the military. We do this whole thing long distance. Which is not the most fun I've ever had. But so so worth it. He came home again for two weeks in November. It was the last time I would see him before he deployed. We had Meg take some lovely photos.

December was good. It was hard to adjust to not being able to talk to him now that he's in Afghanistan. But I stayed busy. Got through finals. Amazingly. And then got to spend a much needed week with my sister in Colorado. We made the ugliest Christmas card known to man. And wore skiing hats. Because we decided to go on a two mile walk in the frigid outdoors. We didn't warm up for a long time.

Here we are already almost through January. I spend a lot of time on school work. In drawing classes, and a TON of time on the drafting board. With lots of coffee and poptarts.

And here we are today. Winter finally showed up. We even had a snow day on Friday. I really hate winter. So when I ventured to the grocery store today, I just had to pick up some of these gorgeous red tulips. They are really making me happy.

{Autumn Recap}

I thought I was in the midst of Autumn. It snowed yesterday. I think I was wrong, I think we're at the very end of it... Snow tires are being acquired this week and I purchased my very first Peppermint Mocha at Starbucks this weekend.

I've been working on so many art projects for school lately, it's all I do! All of my projects, however, are solely in graphite and charcoal. I'm craving color. I cant wait to have paint embedded in my nails and on the back of my arm on the spot I can't see. I can't wait to accidentally drip yellow paint all over my jeans and then smudge it all over. Then try and figure out how to rock a pair of tainted jeans like I bought them that way. If I had a piano, I'd want it to look like this.

Unfortunately for now, I just look dirty. People tend to not tell you that you have giant smudges of charcoal all over your face before you leave class. Thanks, society.

Let me just start off by saying that the little city I live in is not really known for its.... coolness. I really have come to love it, but when I was a teenager I absolutely hated it. Never anything to do. I've learned that it really is a great place to live, you just have to work hard at finding the diamonds in the rough here. One of my favorite places in Spokane is the restaurant Chaps. Chaps is the most darling restaurant, ever. Best food. Decorated impeccably. I also love it because I love the owner, Celeste. She truly is the sweetest and kindest person you'll ever meet.

Lemon poppyseed french toast with cream cheese wonderfullness on top. Swoon. It was delicious. Chaps also has legitimately good coffee, too.

On Wednesday, September the 21st, 2011 I will start my adult life. Actually, I feel very much like I have regressed in age.

Whatevs.

Regardless, I start a very new chapter in my life, or maybe more like a brand new book.

I start college.

I know, I know... I've been outta high school for a while and all... but it's time. I'm going for Interior Design. I'll become a prop stylist and design lovely shoots for Vogue and Anthro and other amazing things.

Oh, dear ones. It's Autumn. I can smell it. The air is crisp and the leaves are crunchy. I've been doing my share of baking and other Fall Festivities. This week I mastered (on my first try, might I add) cinnamon rolls. Thanks to my wicked sweet Pin Board so appropriately donning the nametag of "Foodie," I will never be lacking recipes.

I used this recipe. And I highly reccomend it. I used regular yeast since I don't have a bread machine, like the rest of the shwanky population. For us poor people, the regular yeast and letting it rise above the radiators worked perfectly.

{Farewell Hannah}

One of my oldest friends, Hannah, is about to go on a year long adventure with CTI ministries playing guitar. I'm so happy for her, but at the same time know I'm going to miss her buckets. So on Wednesday night when I asked to hang out with her for a little while before she left... well... it was the obvious choice to make it a surprise party.

Here are a few tips on throwing a party on a tight budget...

1. Candy. It pleases everyone in every age group and is cheap.

2. Be open to the party being a little ghetto-fabulous. Balloons are tacky and I love them.

3. The dollar store often has fun and unique candies... or candies that are mildly nostalgic. Get them.

4. See step 1.

5. Mardi gras beads and glow sticks. LOTS of glow sticks. And when the surprise aspect of the surprise party is about to commence, plan ahead so you know how to hide the glow sticks. Otherwise, you'll get in a predicament like Sara and I here. We stuffed them down our shirts.

6. Hug lots. Afterall, she won't be home for a year.

My sisters are 8 and 11 years older than me. My brother is 7 years older than me. During my childhood that made our relationship always very unique and oftentimes difficult. While our relationships are still unique, and the age difference hasn't changed, I'm so much closer to them now. Hundreds of miles away and my sister and I are still best friends. I'm happy my brother and his wife live here- it makes going out for dinner and drinks a little more fun.

This past weekend my friend and I decided that we would paint each others portraits.Clearly that was the best way to spend a Thursday night. So we loaded up all my paints and glitters, stamps and crafty supplies and a blanket. I was craving some s'mores so bad, too! We made a picnic area in my little "lawn" area and listened to Dubstep and painted away, and then made s'mores with lighters. City life is so much different than what I'm used to.

I adore clothes. My room is literally overflowing with clothes. I wish my blog could be a little more centered on fashion sometimes. I wish I could show you all of my favorite outfits. But it's always hard to take photos of myself...and it makes me feel extremely narcissistic. But today I was happy to have a friend today take photos of me. My outfit was not that exciting... but completely perfect for the day. This weekend was Elfest in Spokane. Such a fun, indie, hipster- food, music and art collaboration filling Browne's Addition. I loved it.

{Apartment Tour Part 2}

My apartment is slowly evolving into what I want it to be. In the process of becoming one step closer I completed more of my living room. One wall in my living room had some awesome molding on it. But with all the walls and molding being white, it made it difficult to notice. I'm allowed to paint my apartment, but I have to repaint it all when I leave. With not knowing how long I'll be here, combined with my hatred of painting, I have chosen to do as little painting as possible. But I decided this was a must. My mom came over and we spent the afternoon painting the inside of these molded rectangles my favorite aqua blue. The result: love. It's just what my funky, little eclectic apartment needed... as well as my contraband flowers I keep cutting from out courtyard. I can't help it! They make my apartment so cheery and they smell so good!

Happy Monday, friends! Was your weekend spectacular? Mine definitely was. I got to dress up and go to Spring Formal. We laughed, ate delicious dinner, sipped sparkling cider in a grand room at the Davenport, and then danced the night away at the after party.

I had to work that day, so I quickly got ready at work. I was planning to quietly slip out... but all the girls helped me finish getting ready. It's like having a bunch of sisters. My hair was super lame, even though I had grand plans for it. I had all of 15 minutes to get ready. I pinned it in a low chignon, and quickly gave up when I got a headache. Simple braid it was.

Here it is at 1 in the morning... waiting to go to bed. I just gave myself a mani and pedi and and am wait. wait. waiting for my nails to dry. I never wait long enough before I go to bed, and I inevitably wake up with lines from my sheets on my nails. Usually that's not the look I am going for. So tonight I am being patient. Sort of.

Tomorrow I go to a Spring Formal with one of the world's greatest guys. And I'm excited. Basically, it's like Prom all over again. I've changed my mind on my dress multiple times. This is the dress I've finally settled on. But basically, it looks nothing like that anymore. Not after me and my trust Huskvarna laid our hands and needles on it! I'm still contemplating on how to do my hair. I know it will involve braids and will be in an updo, but also trying to avoid the "Heidi" look. You know what I'm talking about. Happy Monday, dear readers! Although this Monday is slighty less happy. Sunday and Mondays have always been my day off... and now I work on Mondays. That's okay, though. Mondays are still happy.

For this first time I have everyone over to my little tiny apartment for Mother's Day Brunch. I felt like such a grown up. I served eggs bendict, roasted potatoes, strawberries, bananas, orange cinnamon rolls and pink champagne cupcakes. It was a lovely day. I have the best Mom and Grandma ever. Honestly.

The Postal Service is an awesome band. The Unites States Postal Service, on the other hand, can be challenging. Don't get me wrong. I adore getting mail. My current obsession in getting letters from a certain someone at Boot Camp. Let me tell you, nothing beats that. However, the Unites States Postal Service in no way encourages beauty or creativity.

Recently I sent my friend, Kelsey, a beautifully wrapped package with Valentine goodies in it. Her mailman said it was stupid. She politely told him he was stupid.

So here I am... about to try again. Recently I had some of our (being Kelsey and my) friends over for dinner. I decided we needed to craft. Considering my guests were all male, they weren't as thrilled as I, but love Kelsey nonetheless and were willing participants. We got out my new stamps and paper and all crafted her cards. I made a giant envelope out of a paper grocery bag and cut out hearts out of old books and glued them on. It's adorable. And happy. Oh, so happy.

I can never make up my mind about bangs. I love them, so I cut them. Then I cut them and then I hate them. It's a viscious cycle. But alas, here they are again, gracing my forehead.

So thanks to the lovely Miss Katie I now have completely fallen in love with Pinterest. Best. Thing. Ever. And also oh-so addicting. But it truly is the best way for me to stay organized with all of my inspiration online- rather than keeping folders. This way I can look at all the photos in a folder together, just like an inspiration board that is tangible.

{Gluten Free}

I'm tired of you not helping my body feel good. I'm better off without you.

It seems like so many people are either developing an intolerance for gluten, or are dieting against it. At first I didn't really understand what the problem was. And then I so very much became aware. One of my dearest friends is a Celiac, and through her I started learning how easy it is (mostly) to cut out so much gluten from our diets. At first, I was convinced she couldn't eat anything! Now her and I are together so often it has become so natural for me to be very conscious about gluten. Recently, I've started cutting out all gluten from my diet. And amazingly, I haven't missed a thing. I feel healthier, more energetic, and overall, just better. My body just feels good. I knew it was a good thing when one night, after not having consumed gluten for a number of days, just felt gross when I was eating it. I felt like my body just didn't need it. I can't really even describe it. I just didn't need it.

The moral of the story is this. Being gluten free is a lot easier than I thought it would. I would absolutely love to continue this lifestyle. Don't get me wrong, I am in no way opposed to gluten, and when gladly consume it anytime I'm near a yummy breadstick. However, I'm cutting it out for the most part of my daily life. I want to live a healthy life. Remeber the Fall, and how I was so very sick and was in the ICU? Well, I learned some things about my body then. It's demanding some healthiness from me, and it truly deserves it.

So to celebrate... here's the world's best gluten free cookie recipe... Seriously, you won't even know there isn't any flour (or dairy, for that matter) in this! Yum! Enjoy. :)

Gluten Free Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 Cup peanut butter (I like using crunchy... it gives the cookies even more texture)

3/4 Cup white sugar

1 Lg. egg

1 Tsp. vanilla

1/2 Tsp. baking soda

1/2 Cup chocolate chip (I prefer semi sweet)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients in a bowl until creamy. Add chocolate chips. Spoon into 1 inch balls on a pre-greased cookie sheet. Bake on center rack for about 9 minutes. Cool and enjoy!

Note: when these cookies come out they usually need to cool for a while to "set." When they first come out they tend to be very, very soft and delicate.

Basically my life has just been all sorts of kinds of crazy. Good crazy. I'm telling you, this is the life. It's not perfect. Far from it, really. But it is good. Oh, so good.

So, I'm sorry I haven't blogged in a while... it will hopefully get regular again soon. But in the meantime I feel like I need to clue you in on what's been going on. Basically, as the title Here we go...

I wore the happiest dress ever, with a giant bow on it.

Megan and I went to Thai Bamboo. It was really spicy that night. We figured holding out tongues against the cool glass helped.

Kitten is now obsessed with my bathtub.

I've been dreaming of Summer so much lately. It's going to come. Really it is. I can't handle winter any more. Thankfully daylight savings time helped. If I kept having to trudge home after work in the dark I just thought I was going to die.

I'm dreaming of luscious green trees and flowers growing all around me. I'm dreaming of my mom's garden. Cooking dinner with homegrown veggies. Swimming the day away in my favorite lakes. Jet skiing. I'm dreaming of being able to show off freshly painted toes. I'm dreaming of the way my street looks when the trees are full and provide shade. Cutting fresh bouquets from everything around me. I'm dreaming of wearing flower pretties in my hair. Of driving with the windows rolled down while the wind rushes through my hair. I'm dreaming of eating summer foods. I'm dreaming of wearing little sundresses. I'm dreaming of locking away winter coats. I'm dreaming of eating popsicles. I'm dreaming of the way summer smells. Of summer storms.

I've been cleaning out and organizing all of my files on my web browser. Wow... there are SO many things I am inspired by. I noticed, though, most are bridal related. Remember I told you I've turned into that girl. Darn. Although all the wedding inspirations I find I actually use for wedding and party planning. This photo has been so inspiring to me. I could just stare at it forever.

{Cupcake Fondue}

So basically I can't wait to try this. Happy March!

Cupcake Fondue

You will need:
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup liquid (orange juice, fruit juice, milk, or water)
- 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
- Miniature-size cupcakes in the flavor of your choice,
cooled and unfrosted
- Assorted sprinkles, chopped nuts, and other toppings

1. Make a batch of your favorite mini cupcakes – homemade or from a mix. Make them nice and small so you don’t feel guilty about enjoying 2 or 3 of them. If you use paper liners for baking, remove them after the cupcakes have cooled. Pound cake or any other firm cake works well for skewering, but any cake will do. I used a simple yellow box-mix cake. Allow to cool completely before dipping.

2. Make the fondue: Whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, and corn syrup. Adjust the consistency with a drop of liquid or a dash more powdered sugar until you get have a smooth, thick glaze. I used orange juice for the liquid portion to give it a citrus flavor and cheese-like yellow fondue color. You could also use grape juice for a pastel purple, or milk/water and add your own coloring.

3. Pour frosting into the fondue pot. There’s really no need to heat the mixture, but you can keep a small tea light or very low flame underneath just for looks! Display sprinkles and toppings in small ramekins or portion cups and arrange around the fondue pot. Skewer cupcakes in the side and dip the top half into the fondue, then flip the cupcake over and the frosting will drip nicely down the sides. Sprinkle liberally with your favorite toppings. Enjoy!

{My Deal with Pants}

Okay. So I have this deal with pants. In fact, I'll just go ahead and say it. I hate pants. It's true.

So during the week at work I have to dress "business casual." As I've told you before, I can't stand the way I have to dress for work. So I'm constantly trying to think of ways to still have lots of indie style all while not completely freaking out my boss. But most of all... dressing up is tiresome! When I get home I'm done. the moment that door closes I'm already undressing and getting into comfy clothes.

Thus en lies my hatred towards pants. Un.comfort.able. When I get home it's all about comfort. Yet, I don't ever, and I truly mean ever, wear sweats. But leggings. Oh boy. I LOVE leggings. My friends are always giving my a hard time about it, and that's okay. All for the love of my leggings.

So here I am! Legging clad. And also the softest, coziest cute Gap sweater ever. If I'm not at work, I'm wearing this. As well as my hair in a "bop," as my friend calls it.

So there you have it. The reason I hate pants!

But I can't help it when I get to try on dresses at work! Really. You would, too. Come on, Mr. Man! Show up and sweep me off my feet, already! Okay... maybe not. Maybe I'm enjoying where the Lord has me, I'll be honest. But boy, I'll be ready when it comes!

Finding My Color

So over the years I have really noticed something about my wardrobe. I am petrified of color. Now, this is not something you would expect of me. I think my apartment sometimes nothing but a color explosion... but my clothes on the other hand, not so much. It hasn't helped, either, working at my new job where my attire is "business casual." I'm required to wear black a lot. Booo-rrrring! So I'm going to be starting a segment on my blog that is all about me finding my color! The process may be gradual, but I'll get there.

Phase one: accents. It's starting with things as simple as shoes. (More so, the moral of this photo is that I couldn't believe it was warm enough to wear these!! WHOOHOO!)

So I have another wedding coming up. This wedding means so much to me personally. The groom is practically my brother. In fact, in high school I told everyone that he really was, and they believed me. I've completely fallen in love with his fiancee and am thrilled to be apart of their wedding. These two mean so much to me.

Their wedding is in May and will be in Whidbey Island, a place about 6 hours from here. I'll be doing the decor and flowers (of course!). The Bride, Jen, has chosen lovely shades of teal with accents of raspberry for her colors. So inspiring! All of the florals will be in deep pinks using peonies, ranunculas, anemones and curly willow.

And don't worry... I'm sure you'll heare plenty more about this wedding!

These guys really make my days a little spectacular.

Reasons:

1. I l.o.v.e. to cook and feed people. These two are always willing participants.

2. They're always willing to play photobooth with me. Especially when we discovered you can draw. Yes, the last one says BFFF backwards. Because that's what we are.

3. They mail me letters over Christmas break.

4. They make me dinner and watch movies with me.

5. We have baking lessons together.

6. When I said that I used to be able to go out to movies and now I have no one to take me.... they brought me sparkling cider (my FAVE), flowers and took me to see a movie.

7. When I get compulsions to bake brownies at 2 in the morning they're always awake for a special delivery so I don't eat them all myself.

8. The first time they came over I answered the door crying while wearing a glittery little mermaid t-shirt. (It was without notice, in all fairness!)

9. They love Jesus, too.

So I can't thank you all for your overwhelmingly kind response to my apartment tour! Seriously. Wow... way to boost a girl's self esteem!

I've been browsing one of my favorite sites, ModCloth, and found this amazzzzing shower curtain! The one I have is completely and horrifically boring.... but did I mention I have a clawfoot tub? :) Tour of the bathroom another time, I suppose. Anyway. I think this adorable little curtain would do just the trick of sprucing up my bathroom. It reminds me of my giant spoon and fork!

{Apartment Tour}

So I moved in the very first of September, however it isn't until now now that I'm started to feel settled in. I thought today I would take some photos with all the sunshine. Would you like a tour?

This is a little nook I made by the radiator... I adore sitting by that darn radiator. Sometimes I bring my pillows and blankets and sleep there. It's heavenly. This is a where I start my mornings with cocoa and my Bible.

This is an overall view (by my bedroom) of my living room and dining room. I love that they are distinctly separate, yet so open and spacious.

All those plates on the wall were a cheap way to add some decor to the walls.

Yeah... those are giant spoon and fork wall stickers. I love them!!

Cute little towel rack.

This is an old sheet of metal used under cars to protect the floors from grease... which I'm sure has a technical name... like I would know that! I use it as my little magnet inspiration board above my little sewing/craft table.

Still in love with these chairs. Gotta love Target.

My mom and I made these pillows because I am lacking chairs/sitting space in my living room. The pillows are great when I have friends over. We all just end up piling up on those things and watching movies. I think they are better than my little couch. I hate my stupid couch. :)

Moving on to the kitchen...

On of the things I adored most about this apartment was the black cabinets. How chic, right? Here I used an old locker basket as my bread basket, and a depression glass cake plate for fresh fruit. I use those open cupboards to display all my pretty dishes...

That job didn't last long and I didn't know what to do. I was crazy in love and thought that I was going to marry my bf of 4 years. We broke up. Life is not at all how I planned it. And I am SO thankful. What he plans is far beyond my wildest dreams.

So here's to no more looking back. Here's to looking forward to a brand new year. And here's to cease the planning.

{Winter Wonderland}

Today was a splendid day. Mondays are the best... they are also my day off. So this morning I got together with my bestie, Megan, from Easy Dreamer Photography and her husband and off we drove to find some Christmas trees. I think we have the Charliest of all Charlie Brown trees I have ever seen. And we love them. It may not even be December yet, but we're truly living in a Winter Wonderland in good ol' Washington.

{Change of Plans}

So remember when I said I was planning on starting school in January for interior design to become a prop stylist? Well... things have changed a little. :) I was going to wait to tell you, becuase in no way are these plans final. But I've just been too excited to keep this all to myself! My plans are still pretty much the same, but the school is definitely different. I found my dream school... in Paris! It's called the Paris-American Acedemy. It is a college of Fashion and Interior Design. The classes are in English but suplimented with a few French classes.

My plan is to attend the summer workshop for a month and see how I do. If I love it and don't feel too homesick, I'll send in the rest of my application, come home for a month and then go back. For three years!

I'm beyond excited and scared to death at the same time. I'm trying not to get my hope too high, though. This may not come to fruition. But right now I feel that that is where the Lord is drawing me... so I'm going to follow it!

My dream plan? Live in Paris. Have my family visit over winter to spend Christmas in Paris with me. I would stay home for the summers to just travel. I just want to go. Go all over Europe during the summer months. Then I will meet an amazing and handsome man there. We will have a French countryside with just our families and dearest friends. He'll be super rich, too, that way we can afford to fly everyone over there. :) Sound like a good plan?

{DIY Christmas Ideas}

So upon moving out and having a new job, etc. I have no money. There's no better way to put it really. I am always on a really tight budget. I've been thinking a lot on what type of things I can do for gifts this year for Christmas. My family is always so sweet and telling me not to get them anything and to save my money, but I love giving gifts! So I'm trying to think of ways to be extra thrifty this year. Not just for gifts, but for decorating my apartment as well. I'll be doing regular posts about clever ideas to save this season.

My first idea is this darling skirt I found on Modcloth forever ago. It's out of stock... but just think how easily it could be made from a men's dress shirt! I can't wait to make one! Imagine it in plaid.

So I have this wonderful new job that I am in love with. I work at a shop called Bridal Collections. I get to sell wedding gowns. It's such a happy job. And for those of who just thought of Say Yes to the Dress... yes, it's just like that! For this job I have to "dress up." Which I love doing. I rarely wear jeans anyway, so this isn't a stretch for me. However, it's much more of a professional environment that I am used too. I definitely dress that way when I go to work, but I think I push the line. Today my boss told my co-worker that my boots were "almost borderline." Does anyone else find that comment ironic at all?

The last outfit I didn't wear to work... but I like it nonetheless. I think I'll start doing outfit posts on a regular basis. Any thoughts on that?

I've been on the hunt for a perfect boot for a while now. Wait. Let me clarify. The perfect boot that doesn't cost me a month's pay. It's proven difficult particularly because I have them pictured magnificantly in my mind. That always happens to me, and then I never can find them. If only I could make shoes!

This seems to be the closest to what I'm looking for, yet still not right. Of course, they are from Anthro. And cost an arm and a leg. Which may be a good thing. Then I would only have to buy one boot. ;)

Here is the rest of our fall diy wedding inspiration photo shoot. Done with the help of amazing photographer Megan of Easy Dreamer Photography and sweet Dana from Spokane Bride Blog. We wanted to create something inspirational and attainable on any budget. I did the floral arrangements using things found in my mom's garden. I used basil and mountain ash berry. I wove together baby orange petunias for my headpiece. I embellished Megan's dress (bridesmaid) with handmade fabric flowers and ribbon. This is a customizable service I will soon be offering on my etsy shop. Dana made the delicious pumpkin cake that I adorned with the berries. Megan and I baked the cookies using an amazing cookie cutter from Williams Sonoma. The rest of our props we things we used that we already had, or borrowed from friends. Plus we had the most amazing time doing this! There may be something similar coming this winter, too. :) Stay tuned.

{A decision}

I'm at such a crossroads in my life. Nothing that I have ever planned for myself is still in effect. Really... nothing. While sometimes I am overcome with emotions and sadness, I try not to dwell on it, and instead focus on the potential. Wow. The potential. I've really had to reevaluate my life which beckons the question, "What the heck do I want to do with my life?" What do I want? Well, I've decided. I'm starting school in January. I'll graduate in 4 years from Washington State University with a BA in Interior Design. I really want to be a prop stylist for sweet photoshoots. Okay, dream job? Prop stylist for Anthropologie catalog photo shoots. I'm dreaming big.

I'm showing you right now some of my favorite work from interior stylist, Lo Bjurulf, who works for Ikea (also a fun job). I find it all so inspiring.

I'm not sure why I can't seem to bring you guys any good news lately! But as I write to you now I'm sitting in a hospital bed. I went to the emergency room on Friday night, got admitted to ICU in the morning. I am not longer in the ICU, but am still here. But the doctors have just started writing my discharge papers! I'm so happy to be going home. The last 3 weeks in my life have been the hardest ever, but things are going to get better. Thank you to everyone who has been keeping me in their prayers regarding finding a job, as well as those who knew about me being in the hospital. It means so much to me.

There's no place like home.

I have this thing for rough diamonds. Something about them is so intriguing and beautiful to me. I found these beauties this morning and they made me melt! The company is is Bario-Neal. I love that they are ethically discovered diamonds and they used reclaimed and recycled precious metals whenever possible. Happy!
